Jacques Cesaire, born in Worcester, Massachusetts, whose parents immigrated to the United States from Haiti, was signed by the Chargers in 2003 as an undrafted free agent from Southern Connecticut State University. Jacques was named the Chargers starting Defensive End in 2009 and 2010. Revered for his technique and work ethic, Jacques is one of the most versatile players on the Chargers’ defensive line and helped the team lead the NFL in total defense and rank fourth against the run in 2010.
The hard work and dedication Jacques exudes on the field is equally matched by his philanthropic efforts off the field and in the community. Jacques and his wife Jill, work with the United Way in Jill’s hometown of Groton, Connecticut, and in San Diego as they oversee a nonprofit foundation that benefits the Monarch School for homeless teens. They also contribute to a Chargers program to help feed the city’s homeless every Thursday night. In 2008, Jacques was presented with an Esteemed Service Award from the United Way for outstanding work in the community.
Jacques’ friendship with Pro Player Foundation President Darren Bennett, along with his love for helping children, compelled him to co-host a charity bowling event, JBowl, with fellow defensive teammate and close friend Quentin Jammer. Funds raised on behalf of the Cesaire’s benefit Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research.
During the 2011 offseason while the NFL was in the midst of a work stoppage, Cesaire went back and finished the necessary class work to earn his degree in Liberal Studies from Southern Connecticut State University. In May, he returned to the New Haven, Connecticut campus and took part in the school’s commencement ceremonies. Jacques finished his college football career with 206 tackles, 54 for loss, 21 sacks and four forced fumbles. As a senior, he was voted an All-America by American Football Coaches Association, Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Lineman of Year, and a Cactus Bowl All-Star.
Jacques and Jill reside in Scripps Ranch, CA with their daughter, Vivianna, and son Desmond.
