Hurricane Relief Holiday Shopping Spree Click here to download your sponsor a child form in pdf format.
Dear Friends:
When Hurricane Katrina battered the Gulf Coast, I was busy planning John Carney's Holiday Kicks for Kids program that so many of you supported last year. If you recall, last December we took the children from the French Quarter's Good Shepherd School on a holiday shoe shopping spree at Payless Shoe Source. I was looking forward to seeing the children and vowed to make the 2005 Holiday event bigger and better.
I will never forget how I felt as I witnessed the shocking devastation unfolding and I realized that most of the families of the Good Shepherd children would not have the means to evacuate New Orleans. According to Principal Karen, many children ended up in a nightmare as they sought shelter at the Superdome and the Convention Center. The horrors they witnessed and endured are unimaginable. Unfortunately, at present, some of our students still remain unaccounted for.
Watching the storm, I felt helpless as my heart broke for so many and I wondered about the children. Well, I am not helpless now and I received the uplifting news that the Good Shepherd School will re-open on January 3. And we will be there to uphold our promise and take these children on a fun-filled shopping spree. We are asking that you consider sponsoring at least one child ($100) and help them with their back to school needs. We hope you will keep the children close to your hearts during this difficult time and give generously. Please remember the Good Shepherd children and Hurricane victims in your prayers and have a blessed holiday.
